What is a wedding album? I mean REALLY, what is it? Is it a container to hold your images from your wedding day? Is it a book to show people your wedding day? Is it something to preserve your memories? Is it a way to relive your wedding day – to really feel what it was like to hear your friends laugh, to see your father cry, watch your great grandfather get down on the dance floor?
Answer: It’s all of those things, and it’s one of the most important things from your wedding. It makes you remember everything you spent so much time planning on, all the friends and family you invited, and what it really felt like to say “I do” to the love of your life!!
Imagine it’s your 5th anniversary…you just got your 6 month old to bed, and you and your honey are sitting down having a glass of champagne and looking at your album.
Now it’s your daughter’s 6th birthday, and she wants to see what her parents looked like on their wedding day. She wants to see pictures of her great-grandmother who passed away last year.
Later, your grandson announces he and his fiance are getting married. You pull out your own wedding album and everyone gushes over the images – how different everyone looked, but the love still the same, how funny everyone’s clothing styles are, how much fun it looked like everyone was having. Your grandson and his fiance can’t wait for their wedding and their own wedding album.
Now imagine you only got a disc included in your wedding photography package. Technology changes, and what if you didn’t keep up with it and the disc is no longer something that people use for storing files. What if your parents had all their wedding images on a bunch of floppy discs? It’s just not the same to look at the images on a computer. It doesn’t feel right.
There is no comparison between receiving a beautiful, handmade and custom designed album telling the story of your day, and receiving a disc of images in the mail. Yes, a disc will give you the option to design your own album in the future, and some people actually do that and make wonderful albums!! But, after your wedding, life is…normal again, and usually busier than ever.
Physical albums are so much fun to share with your friends and family – not just right when you get it, but later on, when you show children and grand-children. I know I show my own personal wedding album to everyone that comes to my house!!
Because it’s such an important item, you need to make sure you LOVE your album! There are a zillion album choices out there, so your bound to find something that completely fits your preferences and style :) Even though albums are a bit of an investment, there’s always time to add one into your wedding coverage package. If you can’t afford one right away, you can use wedding gift money, or create a payment plan with your photographer.
Here are a few different options that I carry – I love all of my samples!
This first one comes with a slip-cover and a photo cover. The pages are actual pages, and come in a variety of materials.
This next one comes in many sizes, and is a very popular choice for flushmount styles. This one shown here is the smallest size, and is only 4X4!
The next one might be my favorite, just because it is so different. Its binding is on the outside, and the pages have the option of having torn edges – something that I love, as it reminds me of watercolor paper and being in art school. It has such a rustic, old fashioned and earthy look – absolutely beautiful!
Below is another popular flushmount choice, as this one has thousands of options. The pages can be thicker or thinner, there are many many different sizes, in horizontal, vertical, square, etc., and there are literally endless cover choices. The first one shown here has a silk and suede cover and thinner pages. The second has a wacky leather choice mixed with a photo cover, and thicker pages.
Last but not least, is what I call the gallery art book, because it reminds me of a book you would buy from an art gallery. I love the wrap-around cover, the large size, and that you can fit lots of images in!
All of the albums all together – as you can see they are all very different, just as each couple is different. There’s definitely something out there for you!
